Additional Resources

Access-VR at Beacon

Vocational Rehabilitation ACCES-VR (formerly known as VESID) helps people with disabilities explore their job interests, find a job, and maintain it. Students with IEPs or 504s can apply for Access-VR services to receive job training, learn about job opportunities and receive support services and financial resources for attending college.

Connect with Beacon’s Transition Coordinator, Sunita Budhiraja, to learn more about Access-VR.

Additional Transition Services for Students with IEPs
The Training Opportunities Program (TOP) is designed to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through work-based learning experiences that will facilitate their achievement of measurable postsecondary goals. Through a coordinated set of activities and related instruction, students are provided with opportunities to develop and master competencies related to transferrable work and life skills. You can apply for TOP here, and access more information about transition support here.

Summer Youth Employment

SYEP is a program through the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development that helps youth ages 14 – 24 get work experience, life skills training and income during the summer months. Not all students who apply for SYEP are accepted, but youth with disabilities get priority in the lottery. For more information, check out the SYEP application.

Working Papers

All students between 14 and 17 years of age must obtain an employment certificate in order to work. You can learn more about working papers through the Department of Education, or apply for them using this form.
